The Hague International Model United Nations

This year LAS took its largest group ever to The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN). Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate secondary students about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda.

This year we had 12 students representing Libya on everything from broad issues like 'national identity as a political tool,' to specific questions about the Chagos Archipelago and whether or not veganism protects the environment.

Students prepared for the conference by researching not only the debate topics but Libya itself and its opinions on the topics. This year we also had 2 students (Dariia P. and Khemarin C.) selected to work on MUNITY, the THIMUN newspaper, as artists and political cartoonists. Both students were also selected as finalists for the 2020 THIMUN cartoon contest. Well done everyone!

Leysin American School

For almost 60 years, we have nurtured the talent of our students, motivating them to reach their highest potential in education, sports, and the arts. Our success stems from the vision of founders Fred and Sigrid Ott—to create an international high school in a secure, inspiring location, where young people can reach their goals and become true “citizens of the world.”
