When will you send out the official invitation?
We sent the Save the Date out exactly one year before the event. We will send the official invitation in September via email and social media.
How do I sign up for the various activities that you offer?
When we send out the invitation, it will tell you how to sign up for activities and events. Even if you want to do your own thing (hiking, biking, et cetera!) while you are here, we encourage everyone to join us for the evening meals!
Can I join the planning committee?
Of course! Our first meeting will be in mid-July, but you are welcome to join any time. Simply email C. Ryan Joyce, Director of Advancement, at email@example.com.
What is the cost of the four-day weekend?
The 61st celebration is free of charge - get yourself to Switzerland, and we will take good care of you while you are here!
Will you ask for a donation?
Yes. On Saturday, June 18, 2022, we will host the 61st celebration banquet at the Belle Epoque Campus in the Grande Salle. As part of this special evening, we will officially announce the public launch of SUMMIT: A Comprehensive Capital Campaign for LAS. We will ask everyone to consider a donation to this historic campaign for the future of LAS by filling out a donation form at your table. This will NOT be a fundraising event where people shout out donations. Instead, this is an opportunity to show your support for LAS privately by dropping a pledge card in a box at the end of the night. If you prefer, you will have the opportunity to pledge far in advance of the event (we’ll send out more information with the invitation!). Keep in mind that LAS is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible.
Can we stay in the dorms?
Yes! All of our dormitories will be available. You will have the opportunity to indicate where you would like to stay and how many rooms you will need (no more than 2 per family) with the invitation in September. Depending on demand, we may run out of rooms. We will assign rooms on a first-come, first-served basis, prioritizing our pioneering members from the 1960s. Staying in the dorms will also be free of charge. We will provide linens, but you will need to bring a towel.
Are there bathrooms in the dorm rooms?
Yes! Every dorm room at LAS has a full private bathroom. You will need to bring a towel and toiletries.
Is there a way to get around campus without a car?
Absolutely. Our Cog train will take you from one side of campus to the other. We will also have our busses shuttling throughout the day and evening.
Should I rent a car?
You certainly can, but you do not need one in Leysin. Further, you can take the train directly from Geneva or Zurich to our front door! We highly recommend you use the train system... Swiss precision!
Are there private plane/smaller plane airports near Leysin?
Yes. There are private/smaller airports in Sion and Gstaad (to name a few) that are very close to Leysin.
Is there a car/taxi service in Leysin?
Yes, and they work with our school often.
How many guests can I bring?
This is a family event, so we encourage you to bring your family members. Simply indicate on the RSVP how many guests and your relation to them. We ask you to keep this within the LAS family, so try not to bring guests unrelated to LAS.
What if I want to bring a family who is interested in attending LAS in the future?
Not a problem! We consider them future LAS family members! Please let us know in advance so we can be sure a member of our admissions team has a chance to meet them.
Will guests who are not related to LAS have to pay to attend the 61st Celebration?
Because of the size of this event, we cannot have any guests unrelated to LAS at this event. HOWEVER, if you are hoping to bring a number of your friends, they are welcome to join the BBQ on Thursday evening on the Savoy porch. We simply ask that they donate to the LAS Scholarship Fund.
What constitutes an “unrelated to LAS” guest?
This would be a friend who is not connected to the LAS family or a colleague who is not connected to the LAS family. All of our parents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni family members, spouses, partners, significant others, relatives, and children are not only welcome but encouraged to attend!
Will there be breakfast, lunch, and dinner offered daily?
Yes! But—even better!—our Chef does a hearty, delicious, and lovely brunch which will be served daily from 08:00 to 12:30. We will serve dinner each evening in a variety of places around campus except for Friday, June 17, when dinner will be held at various restaurants and places on campus as graduating classes/years gather. For those not attending those special reunion dinners on Friday (if you are not an LAS Alumni, faculty member, or spouse of an alum or faculty member), dinner will be served on campus.
Will you accommodate food allergies?
Yes. Our executive chef will be catering all meals at LAS, and he and his staff are very comfortable accommodating our students' allergy needs throughout the school year. However, we cannot guarantee that we can cover every possible dietary need, so if you are concerned and have a few questions, please reach out before the event.
Will I have the ability to purchase LAS clothing, gear, coffee mugs, hats, etc., throughout the long weekend?
Very much so! In fact, throughout the school year, we will be showcasing the various limited-edition 61st-anniversary gear that you can purchase at the event or before arriving! We are working with several Swiss outfitters on a range of exciting clothing and swag.
Will you be offering childcare for the evening events?
Yes. We will have a group of dedicated faculty and summer program staff who will be able to watch the children either at the dorms or at a single location during the evening events if you feel they are too young to attend.
Will children and spouses/partners/significant others be allowed to attend all events?
Spouses/partners/significant others are encouraged to attend all events throughout the long weekend. Children are invited to all events except the Friday, June 17 Dinner by Decades evening. This event is only for adults, and we will offer childcare.
Will there be child-friendly events throughout the day?
Yes! We will have a wide variety of activities and events for all ages each day. Stay tuned for more information on exactly what those will be. Example events: chocolate factory visits, cheese making classes, hiking, biking, boating, walking tours, rock climbing indoors and outdoors (we have a great indoor climbing wall for all ages on campus), paragliding, day trips to Lake Geneva and Bern to swim/float, shopping trips to Gstaad, Olympic Museum trips to Lausanne, wine tasting and vineyard tours, games on campus with children, football, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, swimming in the pool, telecabine trips to the top of the Berneuse... the list goes on and on!
Can I bring my babysitter/nanny?
Yes. Simply add this person(s) to your overall total of guests attending.
What hotels can I stay in while in Leysin?
We highly recommend using the Leysin Tourism Office for a good list of local hotels and bed and breakfasts. We will work with our hotels on various discounts and deals and keep this information updated here.
What hotels do you recommend outside of Leysin?
There are so many to choose from at a variety of price ranges. However, we have a close relationship with Fairmont Le Montreux Palace - a 5-star hotel in the heart of Montreux on Lake Geneva and only a 40-minute drive from Leysin. If you decide to book there, make sure you let them know that you are from LAS, and you will receive a 15% discount!
We also recommend (on the higher end), The Alpina Gstaad, The Gstaad Palace, Le Grand Chalet Gstaad, Beau-Rivage Palace Lausanne, The Royal Savoy Lausanne, Grand Hotel du Lac Vevey . Each of these hotels is within a one-hour drive of Leysin. As always, feel free to reach out to us, and we can recommend hotels at any price range... or you can stay in the dorms!
Will the gymnasium and workout facilities be open?
Yes! All of our facilities will be open during your time here.
Should I bring any equipment if I plan to rock climb, hike, bike, boat, et cetera?
You can certainly bring your own equipment, but we also have equipment that we use with our students available for a wide variety of activities.
Will there be a professional photographer throughout the long weekend?
Yes. We will have multiple photographers taking group and individual pictures throughout your time in Leysin, and we will send out our best photos from the weekend after the event.
Will the class of 2020 have a graduation during the long weekend?
We have a time set on Friday, June 17 at 17:00 CET to celebrate the class that never had a graduation in Leysin due to the pandemic. The specifics will be decided by the LAS Advancement Office and the graduates of the Class of 2020.
Will the LAS Summer in Switzerland program (our incredible summer program!) begin immediately after the reunion weekend?
No. The summer program dates are as follows for 2022:
Session 1: June 26 - July 9, 2022
Session 2: July 10 - July 23, 2022
Session 3: July 24 - August 6, 2022
What if I want to enroll my child in the summer program but cannot stay an entire week to wait for it to begin?
No worries! We are in the process of creating a very special LAS Alumni Children Tour de Suisse for the week between the reunion and the start of our summer programs. While planning is only just beginning, we will likely offer a five-day tour to various incredible places around Switzerland like Zermatt, Bern, Montreux, Geneva, Zurich, St. Moritz, to name a few! What an unforgettable chance for your child to see Switzerland the way you did as a student! The trips will include both sightseeing and outdoor adventures!
Do you offer an alumni discount for summer programs and the school year?
Yes! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on enrollment of any kind.
Do you offer scholarships and financial aid for students at LAS?
Yes! Thanks to the generosity of our parents and alumni around the world, we can offer scholarships and financial aid to 30% of our student body!
How do I donate now to support these programs and to make an early gift to the capital campaign?
Thank you! That’s incredible! You can always go online and give by credit card. We can also accept wire transfers, checks, gifts of stock/securities, gifts in kind, etc. Simply contact C. Ryan Joyce, Director of Advancement, at email@example.com to discuss options. Keep in mind, LAS is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible.
