Founders Scholarship Program
for Corporate Sponsored Students
In 1960, Mr. Fred and Mrs. Sigrid Ott founded LAS to provide expatriate children, from around the world, with a high quality, university preparatory education in a caring, family-centered environment in a unique location. In honor of its founders, Leysin American School established the Founders Scholarship Program to continue to make that same educational experience available as the demand and cost for such an experience has risen dramatically.
Designed to help students and their families bridge the gap between their parent’s employer’s boarding school tuition programs and the cost of full tuition at LAS. Scholarship awards will be made based on merit and financial need. Each Scholarship is renewable at the discretion of LAS and dependent upon the continuation of the parent’s employer’s boarding school tuition program.
Students should complete the online application and will then be requested to complete a separate form for the scholarship if they are offered a place at LAS. Once the completed scholarship application has been received, the Admissions & Financial Aid Committee will evaluate the student’s past academic performance, teacher recommendations, student essay, involvement in extracurricular activities and community service to establish the level of scholarship
All scholarship recipients are expected to make significant positive contributions to the LAS Community both inside and outside the classroom.
Each year the LAS Foundation makes financial awards to exceptional students who have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic, extra curricular and personal achievements. LAS Scholars are expected to be model students of high performance who add to the LAS community through their academic achievements and involvement in various athletic, artistic and community service programs.
Scholarships are offered based on merit and financial need. Full scholarships are only offered to students entering 11th grade who intend to pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Partial scholarships, however, are available to students in all grades. LAS Scholars must continue to be good citizens in our community and superior students who maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA for partial scholarships and 3.5 GPA for full scholarships. Each student is evaluated and must re-apply for his/her scholarship for the next school year. The scholarships are renewable at the discretion of the LAS Foundation and depend on the performance of each student.
Students need to complete the online application form via our website and will then be requested to complete additional forms for the scholarship if they are offered a place at LAS. Once the completed scholarship application has been received, the Admissions & Financial Aid Committee will evaluate the student’s past academic performance, teacher recommendations, student essay, involvement in extracurricular activities and community service to establish the level of scholarship. Additional information may be requested by the Financial Aid Committee.
