“I will never forget the impact that LAS had because it underpins the way that I walk through this world. To ask what LAS means to me is to ask the story of who I am.” - Mattias Horseman ‘10
At LAS, we love welcoming members of our Global Family from across the world back to campus. This week, Mattias Horseman ‘10 returns after his last visit to Leysin for the 61st Celebration in the summer of 2022. Mattias attended LAS as a scholarship student and often speaks about his experiences and happy memories as a student here on the Magic Mountain. During his visit, Mattias is running various workshops such as The Magic of Storytelling and speaking at the graduation ceremony, imparting his wealth of knowledge and experience to our graduating Class of 2023!
As a creative marketer for a major international food and beverage company, Mattias has so much knowledge and expertise to share with our students. We are excited to learn from him and show students the many different career paths available to LAS graduates. Travel is a big part of Mattias’ current job, and he credits LAS for setting him up for success by allowing him to interact with so many different cultures and types of people. He reflects that his global experience at LAS has prepared him to enter the ever-changing world we live in now.
Mattias started his LAS journey as a student in the summer program and has reflected that since then, whenever he has stepped foot on the Magic Mountain, he has felt at home. He credits his time on the Magic Mountain for shaping his sense of community, and through service trips he learned how to care for others and be there for people, particularly in a boarding school environment. Mattias states, “A scholarship is an investment in someone’s future and their potential for good; donations don’t go into the school, they go into a student, a kid just like me.” Mattias is a prime example of why we have a scholarship program, and alumni and students like him remind us of the importance of our program.
Reconnecting with our Global Family is what our alumni network is all about! Welcoming Mattias back to campus as a Alumni Visiting Scholar is such a treat for us, and we are always pleasantly reminded of the range of talent, skills, and expertise we have in our community. Although it will be sad to say goodbye to the graduating Class of 2023, we are sure that after spending time with Mattias, they will be equally excited to join our large alumni community and connect with fellow alums, no matter where they are in the world!
Please contact bwalker@las.ch for questions about the scholarship program, donating to LAS (a registered non-profit that is tax-deductible), or being involved as an Alumni Visiting Scholar. We love having our community back on campus and hearing them share their expertise with our students!
