International Week is an excellent opportunity to recognize, share, and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes LAS an incredible community to be a part of! With over 60 nationalities in our community, this week was a powerful reminder of what makes LAS unique. Students and faculty have a fantastic time celebrating their own cultures and learning about different customs and traditions from all over the world. Organized with the help of StuCo and the SAFE Group, this year’s program is an engaging mix of activities, workshops, and events detailed below.
Monday: Games & Workshops
The week starts with international-themed games for Grades 10 and 12, while Grades 7, 8, and 9 began hands-on workshops. From Irish dancing and Tex-Mex cooking to South East Asian cuisine and global access discussions, these workshops offer students a chance to explore new cultures through fun and interactive activities!
Tuesday: Arts, Crafts, and Pierogis
Grade 10 students enjoy cultural puzzles and activities, including a special pierogi-making session for students. Meanwhile, Grades 7–9 showcase their creative sides, learning Japanese origami and painting Russian nesting dolls!
Wednesday: Parade of Flags and National Dress Day
This fun event allows students to take pride and represent their countries by parading through the crowds, holding their country’s flag, and wearing their cultural dress! Our students always have a lot of fun at this event, and it’s a great way to bring our community together and show what our cultures mean to us!
Thursday: Cultural Activities & Games
Grade 11 students explore cultural hands-on group activities, while younger students participate in international-themed games that allow them to develop their teamwork and cultural knowledge!
Friday: The Big International Trivia Night
The week culminates in the always-popular International Trivia Night—a chance for all grades to come together in the MMAC for a friendly competition. With a pizza party alongside the quiz, our students put their thinking caps on and learn about different cultures!
International Week is a fantastic opportunity for students to show pride in their cultures and learn about countries around the world. Experiential learning is always at the forefront of what we do at LAS, so participating in workshops and getting hands-on experience allowed our students to broaden their minds and further their journey to becoming global citizens!
