LAS Students Excel in International Math Contest

Once again, LAS students showed their academic might at the 2026 CEMC Fermat Maths Contest. Congratulations to Natalia '27 and Pragya '27 for placing in the top 25% of this international competition! These outstanding results are a testament to their dedication, talent and hard work. We are proud of all LAS students who participated.

The Fermat Contest is a mathematics competition run by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo in Canada. An optional test undertaken during class time, it is designed to foster creative problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

Our students prepared diligently, even while carrying a rigorous IB workload, and it's wonderful to see their commitment and perseverance pay off. Building on the strong academic foundations developed in the classroom, they also demonstrated discipline, confidence, and initiative in choosing to participate in this contest.

Participating in the Fermat Maths Contest gives students the chance to challenge themselves academically while competing against peers from around the world. It’s also a strong addition to their CV when applying to universities. Performing well on such a demanding exam requires both strong mathematical knowledge and careful thinking under time pressure.

We congratulate all of our participants from the Class of 2027—Natalia, Pragya, Ko, Arthur and Hayato—for taking part in this challenging competition. As we celebrate their success, we also extend our sincere thanks to the teachers whose guidance, commitment and support played a crucial role in preparing them. Their efforts made this a wonderful achievement for everyone involved!
