Tuesday Night Talks: Providing Students With a Well-Rounded Education

At Leysin American School, we provide students with a well-rounded educational experience. We focus on the academic side of our student’s education as well as the personal and residential side, providing them with the skills and inspiration they need to become happy and healthy global citizens. A key component of our residential life curriculum is the Tuesday Night Talks (TNT) series. These talks are a combination of outside experts in specific fields, such as drug and alcohol abuse education, community empowerment and diversity, sexual health, and even how to go from being a gold medal athlete to a successful business person. Other talks are led by our dedicated team of dorm heads and supportive staff from the counseling and health teams.

The residential life curriculum is driven by three broad concepts: respect for self, respect for others, and respect for one's community and environment. As we look forward to next year, we aim to welcome at least one outside expert onto campus each month. These visits align with a year-long vision of healthy adolescent growth and community building at LAS. This program will add to our student experience and help us accomplish our mission to educate our community in a well-rounded way.

At LAS, we love providing students with experiential learning opportunities. This means taking a portion of learning outside the classroom and allowing students to gain hands-on experience. Though classroom learning is of great importance, certain learning opportunities can expand beyond the classroom. As part of the TNT program, we bring real-world expertise to our student experience, which supports our extracurricular programming and inspires our students to learn about the range of knowledge and opportunities at their fingertips as they continue their journeys at LAS. Furthermore, education on health and well-being is vital, as it provides students with the knowledge they need as young adults. Gaining this information through discussions with experts from around the world will allow students to learn cutting-edge knowledge from different countries and gain insight into different cultural nuances.

We love providing our students with a well-rounded education, both academically and in regard to their residential and personal lives. Gaining knowledge and experience from scholars and passionate academics inspires our students and encourages them to advocate for themselves and learn more about the world around them. We can’t wait to welcome more experts to campus!
