Triumph at the 2023 CEMC Senior Maths Competition

The 2023 CEMC Senior Maths competition (hosted online by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing at Waterloo University in Canada) has concluded with incredible success for LAS students! We love encouraging our students to challenge themselves and compete against others from all over the world, and this year’s competition was no exception.

Congratulations to Yi ('24), who earned a prestigious medal for her outstanding performance, as well as three other LAS students—Mason ('24), Akos ('25), and Otávio ('25)—who have secured a coveted Certificate of Distinction by achieving scores within the top 25% of all competitors! This is an incredible achievement, and we are so proud of all the students involved in this challenging competition.

This achievement reflects the dedication and talent of these students and their hard work, having built a strong academic foundation at LAS through their lessons and preparation in their own study time. As we celebrate the achievements of Yi, Mason, Akos, Otávio, and all LAS participants, we also want to acknowledge the dedication and support of the teachers who have played a crucial role in helping them prepare for this competition!

What makes this accomplishment even more exciting is the impact it may have beyond the competition itself. A former CEMC top scorer is now studying maths at Waterloo university, and so this achievement is really exciting for our LAS competitors! This shows the value of participating in academic challenges like these, which have the potential to open doors to future academic opportunities.

Congratulations once again to Yi and all the LAS participants for their achievements in the 2023 CEMC Senior Maths competition. Coming up, we have ten students who have entered the next competition on 29 February, Fermat CEMC. LAS is committed to fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages intellectual curiosity and excellence in all subjects, and we are incredibly proud of the students involved in this competition. Their hard work, dedication, and passion for mathematics have really paid off, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future!
