The World Is Our Classroom: LAS Students Explore the World from the Heart of the Swiss Alps

LAS has a proud tradition of offering students unforgettable trips that are exciting, engaging, and educational. Every year, our travel program spans the globe, and we have some incredible trips happening in the coming semesters. We've already planned nearly 50 incredible adventures for next academic year, with 40 of them happening right here in Europe!

Thanks to our central location in the Swiss Alps—bordered by five countries and just a few hours from major cities and cultural hubs—travel throughout Europe is especially convenient. Even better, we can visit popular, normally crowded locations and sites during off-peak times of the year. This allows students to visit iconic destinations with greater ease and access, providing them with a more authentic experience.

Here is just a snapshot of the incredible European trips we have planned this upcoming year:

SWITZERLAND: We may be biased, but we truly believe Switzerland is one of the best places in the world to visit (and live)! Our students get to experience the full spectrum of Swiss life: world-class skiing, hiking mountains, exploring glaciers, vibrant cities, and charming alpine villages. Cities like Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Bern, and Montreux are all quick train rides away and offer everything from historic old towns and art museums to cheese and chocolate tours, lake cruises, live music, and even floating down a river (the way some Bern residents commute to work!).

FRANCE: Sharing a border with France makes visiting Paris, Bordeaux, Cannes, Nice, Eze, and Annecy from LAS incredibly easy. Our trips feature French language and culture immersion, visits to famous landmarks (Eiffel Tower, please!), beautiful beaches, cooking classes, art museums (yes, the Louvre!), Europa Park, cycling tours, boat cruises, and even a visit to a perfume museum!

ITALY: Snapping a selfie in front of the Colosseum, walking on a volcano, making fresh pasta, discovering the fashion scene in Milan, learning about sustainable agriculture, and eating gelato as you explore cobbled streets are just a few of the experiences our students will have on our many trips to Italy. Students visit popular locations like Venice, Rome, Florence, and the Cinque Terre, as well as Puglia, Sicily, and Sardinia. We even have an exciting weekend trip planned to attend the F1 Italian Grand Prix in Monza! Every trip offers a unique and rich blend of fun and culture.

SPAIN: Our Spain trips are planned for optimal weather and minimal crowds. Our students will be able to fully experience the rich Spanish culture and lifestyle. Highlights include the Alhambra in Granada, La Sagrada Família cathedral in Barcelona, the Mezquita-Catedral of Córdoba, the Prado art museum, open-air markets, beach time, boat tours, and of course, delicious tapas and café con leche in sunny plazas.

...AND MORE!
Students will explore so much more thanks to the LAS travel program: surfing in Portugal, parasailing in Croatia, visits to universities in London and Cambridge, riding camels in Morocco, history walks in Malta, and ecological tours on Madeira Island, and a service-focused trip to Zimbabwe. We can't wait to see our students dive into these incredible experiences, strengthen friendship bonds, create lifelong memories, and feel even more connected to the different cultures and people of our world. Along with supporting a diverse international community and fostering curiosity in other cultures, our extensive and thoughtfully designed travel program is just one of the ways we accomplish our mission to develop individuals who are compassionate and responsible citizens of the world.
