At LAS, our vibrant arts program offers students the opportunity to explore their creativity and performing talents across nearly every facet of musical theatre. Guided by experienced theatre professionals, students delve into acting, dance, singing, set design, music production, and lighting, each serving as a meaningful path of artistic expression and personal growth and development. The result is a series of thoughtfully interpreted, polished, and entirely student-led productions that proudly showcase the dedication, collaboration, and extraordinary talent of our students. 

This week, the LAS community was delighted by an enchanting production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The beloved story follows Ariel, a spirited young mermaid who dreams of leaving her ocean home to discover the world above. After rescuing Prince Eric from a storm, Ariel makes a risky deal with the sea witch Ursula, trading her beautiful voice for a pair of legs and a chance at true love. With the help of her loyal friends Flounder, Scuttle, and the ever-anxious Sebastian, Ariel must win the Prince’s heart in just three days without speaking a single word. It is a timeless tale of bravery, sacrifice, and the courage it takes to follow one’s dreams.

From the very first moment, the audience was swept away by inspired performances, lively music, beautiful sets, precise lighting and sound production, and imaginative costumes and makeup. With great heart and energy, the cast embodied an impressive range of emotions and personalities, displaying the soulful, captivating, comic, and exciting natures of the characters. The entire theatre was transformed into an undersea world, bringing to life a captivating story of romance, humor, and adventure.

This magical production was the result of countless hours of hard work, creativity, and dedication. Meeting twice a week in the Black Box Theatre, performing students refined their singing, acting, and dancing, while Technical Theatre students expertly designed and executed every element of sound, set, choreography, and lighting. The level of care and commitment on stage and behind the scenes was evident in every moment of the production. 

Over three unforgettable nights, audiences were treated to a truly spectacular theatre experience. Every member of the cast and crew poured their passion into the performance, delivering a show that was both entertaining and inspiring. Congratulations to everyone involved in The Little Mermaid!
