Tennis Triumphs and Volleyball Victories: An LAS Sports Update!
Here at LAS, we are so excited about all the sports activities and opportunities that have been taking place over the past couple of weeks. Alongside their studies, we encourage students to participate in various activities, whether creative, active, or membership on a sports team. Working within a team can build resilience, friendships, and new skills, and we have seen some incredible improvements over the past few weeks!
This year has kicked off to a great start, with many students participating in our sports programs! The LAS Girls Volleyball team played their first tournament of the season. This year, a new team means a lot of opportunity for growth, and as the players began training, they saw their team chemistry improve! After playing six games in one day, the team was proud to have won half of those matches, an admirable feat for a new team during their first outing. The LAS Boys Volleyball team played a tournament in Lugano and secured an impressive 4th place! Co-captains Tasker ‘26 and William ‘26 delivered unmatched energy, and the team can’t wait for the next game!
The tennis season began in September, and students competed in two singles tournaments. LAS hosted the year's first competition with over 50 participants from 7 different schools. Congratulations to Ola ‘25 for winning a silver medal! The LAS Tennis team competed again the following week, where Ola won her category, and Carlota ‘25 and Marco ‘27 finished third place. The team was incredibly committed and dedicated!
The LAS Boys Football team had their first tournament of the year in Geneva. Despite the early start, they hit the ground running, securing two victories in their morning matches. After lunch, the boys managed to claim a crucial win! Heading straight into the final match, they unfortunately lost by a narrow 1-0 score to the opposition. Not without a fight, though! Taking 2nd place overall, the team should feel so proud of their performance!
The LAS Boys Basketball team played their first league match of the season against local rivals Kumon. With some impressive crowd support, our boys took an early lead with dominance. Weichen’s ‘25 strength saw him tally 6 of the first 8 points scored by LAS! As the players began to find their rhythm, newcomers David '28 and Candido ‘26 made their mark, while Maaz’s ‘25 3-pointers amazed the crowds! Special mention to Yubi ‘26, whose work ethic earned him the unsung hero of the game! Congratulations to the basketball team for their amazing win!
LAS Golf season was off to a great start in the hills above Lausanne. The Lavaux course boasts challenging undulations to keep our players on their toes. Golfers Yuto ‘25, Joe '26, and Hugo ‘29 played amazingly during the tournament.
We are incredibly proud of our students for trying new sports and representing LAS in tournaments across the country! From volleyball to tennis, football, basketball, and golf, our students have shown amazing dedication and teamwork. The players’ resilience and camaraderie are just as important as their achievements, and as we continue through the year, we look forward to seeing even more growth and accomplishments!
