Located in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is a country on many people’s bucket list. Switzerland offers a unique and picturesque array of sights, activities, and experiences, from bucolic Alpine villages to vertiginous mountains and landscapes. There are many benefits of visiting and even living in such a beautiful area of the world, and it offers unique and enriching opportunities for young people seeking a fun summer full of international experiences and fun activities! Below are just a few of the reasons why Switzerland is the place to be during the summertime:
1. Activities
Switzerland offers an exciting array of activities for young people, from hiking and mountain biking to city exploration and lake swimming! It’s a great place for young people to have fun and experience the wonders of the outdoors. Students who come to LAS for summer school create memories to last a lifetime and meet friends for life!
2. Language development
Four languages are spoken in Switzerland: French, German, Italian, and Romansh. Students seeking to develop their language skills have ample opportunity to practice in Switzerland, whether they're ordering a croissant from the boulangerie or buying a train ticket at the station. The locals speak French in Leysin, and our summer school language classes offer fun courses that teach students the basics in no time!
3. Switzerland’s rich culture and history
Many of our students enjoy learning about Switzerland's culture and history. Switzerland's outdoors and folk traditions give the whole country an exciting charm. Beautiful chalets and stunning landscapes entice over 4 million tourists yearly; enough to assure you of the country’s allure but not enough for it to feel overcrowded!
4. Location
Switzerland is located in the heart of Europe. Its geographical position makes it a fantastic country to visit, as it borders France, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Liechtenstein. Swiss culture is unique from these countries, and offers a blend of customs and traditions.
5. Safety
Switzerland is an incredibly safe country. The crime rate is very low, and the 2021 World Peace Index ranked Switzerland 7th on a list of 163 countries! Switzerland has a sense of community, especially in Leysin, and our students always feel safe around town.
6. Clean air
The Belle Époque building at LAS was originally used as an institution for tuberculosis patients. Due to its high altitude and fresh mountain air, Leysin became a popular location for patients in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Nowadays, the Alpine fresh air and blue skies make it a great place to relax and enjoy activities! Even the cities have minimal pollution and low levels of traffic.
Switzerland is a fantastic place to visit. Whether you want to travel as a family or you would like to send your child to our fantastic summer program, make Switzerland your next travel destination!
