Every year, the entire Leysin American School community comes together for Faculty Family Day, a full day off campus dedicated to fun, enrichment, and unforgettable adventures. This much-loved tradition gives students and staff a chance to step away from academics and bond through shared experiences. The activities may vary, but one thing always remains the same: the wide smiles on everyone’s faces.

At LAS, Faculty Families are at the heart of student life. These small, close-knit groups pair 5–8 students of similar ages with 2–3 staff “parents.” Meeting weekly throughout the year, Faculty Families provide a built-in support system, helping students feel connected, cared for, and at home. Faculty Parents take a holistic approach to guidance, focusing not just on academics but also on social connection and emotional well-being.

This year’s Faculty Family Day set the bar high with an incredible variety of activities and destinations just a short trip from our beautiful Swiss Alps campus. Students hiked mountain trails, went canyoning, raced go-karts, tackled escape rooms, and even enjoyed raclette on the trail. Others relaxed at thermal baths, wakeboarded or foilboarded, played laser tag, or soared down the slopes on mountain scooters.

Faculty Families also explored some of Switzerland’s most iconic destinations, including Zermatt and the Matterhorn, Bern, Neuchâtel, Verbier, the Cailler Chocolate Factory, Gruyère, and the Grottes de Vallorbe. These adventures gave students the chance to experience Swiss culture, breathtaking landscapes, and plenty of laughter with their LAS families.

By venturing outside the classroom, students not only recharge and de-stress, but also strengthen friendships, discover new passions, and return refreshed and ready to thrive academically. Whether boating on Lake Geneva, visiting a museum, or enjoying a mountain adventure, Faculty Family Day helps every student create lifelong memories and deepen their sense of belonging at LAS.
