Student Recommendations: Making the Most of the LAS Experience!

Our peaceful campus in the heart of the Swiss Alps offers students far more than breathtaking views and fresh mountain air. At Leysin American School, outdoor adventure, athletics, arts, and social connection are all part of everyday life. To help new students settle in, we asked our LAS Student Leaders to share their favorite activities—and they came up with a long and exciting list!

Take Advantage of Leysin's World-Class Athletic Facilities!
Athletics are a core part of life at LAS and our outstanding facilities ensure every student can find an activity they love. On campus, the Magic Mountain Athletic Center (MMAC) is a lively hub where students work out, connect with friends, and try new sports. From volleyball, climbing, and table tennis to strength training in the gym, or even grabbing a healthy smoothie in Café 7, the MMAC has something for everyone.

Just minutes away from campus, students also enjoy free access to two excellent village sporting centers which are an integral part of the LAS experience. The Upper Sporting Center features an indoor pool, a modern gym, indoor tennis, and even rooftop tennis courts with spectacular views of the Swiss Alps, including the iconic Dents du Midi. The Lower Sporting Center offers ice skating, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and curling. But the highlight is “Le Bag”, a year-round ski and snowboard jump that professional athletes travel to Leysin to use! Our students (under guided supervision) also have access to this world-class training feature to practice their freestyle tricks, no matter the season.

Join After-School Activities and Discover a New Passion!
Our unique location and exceptional facilities allow us to offer students an incredible variety of after-school activities. Athletes can join team sports like football, basketball, swimming, golf, tennis, and skiing, or try mountain biking, horseback riding, or paddle boarding right outside our doors. Did you know that over 50% of our student body participates in a team sport?

Creative students can take part in the school play or musical, learn an instrument, or experiment with new artistic techniques in fine arts. Academics and leadership enrichment opportunities abound in Student Council, Human Rights Club, National Honor Society, and Model UN. Our incredibly broad after-school activities program truly offers something for everyone!

Share a Meal Together, On or Off Campus!
Student life at LAS is also about sharing meals and making memories. Beyond our welcoming dining halls, campus kitchens and lounges give students the chance to cook together, swap recipes, and enjoy plenty of laughs. Students regularly cook and eat together in our dorm kitchens and many of our student leaders recommended that new students share a meal with their peers to get to know one another!

In the village, students love exploring local favorites like New World for burgers, La Crêperie, Farandole for fresh focaccia, La Fromagerie for fondue, La Calabre for pasta and pizza, and Le Rouge et Le Noir for authentic Chinese food.

Hike, Explore, and Connect with Nature!
Life in Leysin means easy access to some of the best hiking trails in Switzerland. Students enjoy walking, biking, and exploring trails both on campus and throughout the village. Fresh spring-water fountains are scattered along the paths, offering some of the purest water in the world. A student favorite is the hike to Eagle’s Nest, a scenic lookout that is a gentle hike from campus where you can see Lake Geneva, valleys below, and the surrounding Alps, in both Switzerland and France. It's perfect for unwinding, reconnecting with nature, and catching a stunning sunset.

A Lifestyle That Builds Lifelong Memories
At LAS, student life is about balance between academics, adventure, and social connection. Whether it’s playing sports in world-class facilities, joining after-school clubs, hiking breathtaking trails, or simply relaxing with friends over a shared meal or movie night, students have countless opportunities to create lasting friendships and unforgettable experiences.
