Ski, Board, Explore: The Arrival of Winter Wonderland in Leysin!

Happy New Year! As our amazing Swiss winter wonderland arrives here on the Magic Mountain, we hope everyone in our LAS community is ready with their skis and snowboards! Here at LAS, we are offering an extensive range of activities this season, so there is definitely something for everyone! From ski and snowboarding lessons to ice climbing and snowshoeing, our students have an incredible range of new things to try and skills to develop.

During the winter term, LAS students have the opportunity to ski or snowboard every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon on our very own Leysin resort with over 60 km of pistes. This is a really unique privilege and our students love going out on our incredible mountain with their friends! Novice skiers take lessons twice per week from experienced instructors, while more advanced students  take lessons once per week and have more time to venture onto the mountain in groups of three, exploring new thrills like the snowpark and freestyle skiing. There is something for every skill level!

Aside from skiing and snowboarding, the LAS Alpine Institute organizes activities such as snowshoeing, ice climbing, and more. These unique experiences might be unfamiliar to some students, but they offer an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate our unique location on this beautiful mountain! Besides participating in winter activities on our mountain, we also arrange trips to other ski resorts and areas of Switzerland, such as Glacier 3000, Saas-Fee, Zermatt, and more. This gives students exposure to various conditions, altitudes, and activities.

More experienced skiers can try out for the freestyle team, enjoy the freeride program, try our cross-country skiing, ski touring, off-piste skiing, and much more! This adds some variance to classic skiing and snowboarding and allows students to try out new skills. Alongside these activities, students also take safety and avalanche training so that they are fully prepared for any unlikely scenarios.

We cannot wait to see how much our students improve this winter—it looks like it will be a great season! To find out more about our skiing and snowboarding programs, visit las.ch/experiential/ski-and-snowboard.
