An Exciting and Spirited Week of Sports at LAS!

LAS has a phenomenally strong and varied athletic program, and we're always so proud of our athletes, their coaches, and the entire LAS community who supports them. This week, we asked our Athletic Director to report on the exceptional hard work, spirit, and achievements of our LAS athletes:

Boys Basketball

The LAS boys basketball team have been busy these last two weeks with a flurry of high octane matches. In the ADISR Cup, LAS faced formidable opponents at Collège du Léman, losing out to a stronger and older team. The boys regrouped in preparation for the hosting of the auspicious SGIS Championships where the team were able to put into action their hard work in training sessions. Finishing fourth in their group gave them a chance at a wildcard spot in the quarter finals. In a closely fought match against local rivals, Kumon, LAS lost by just one point as a shot in the last second of the match rolled around the rim only to miss the sink. LAS secured the ninth spot this year as they look to grow with lots of young talent in the pipeline for the future. Special mentions to Junyuan '29 for his bursts of energy and knocking down six points in quick succession, and Cristian '27 for his dynamic and explosive movements. Sawyer '27 provided strong rebounds and playmaking, and captain Yubi '26 led his team with set plays and some exceptional three pointers.

Swimming

A few of our swimmers were pleased to have the chance to get in the water and compete at a swim meet in Villars. Kian '29 and Alex '28 proudly represented LAS in several events and came back stronger from the experience.

Girls Football

Our girls football team faced tough opponents La Chataigneraie in the ADISR Cup semi-final last week. After a nervous start the girls began to find their rhythm. Despite the loss, there were lots of positives to be drawn from. Their renewed focus on the MLS competition saw them perform fabulously against Aiglon, winning 6-0! The girls played fluid, dynamic football, using space well and creating opportunities through intelligent play construction! Goal scorers were Siena '27 (2), Sam '26 (2), Claudia '27 and Natalia '29! They now move to the last games of the season for the finals in Montreux, where the girls aim to retain the title of MLS Champions!

Boys Football

Our boys football team couldn't have been more excited to host Aiglon at our beautiful floodlit pitch this week. Their energy was palpable as they ran hard, played smart, and created a flurry of opportunities. Luca '28 and Owen '26 supported from the back with excellent defense. Oscar '26 had an exceptional game taking on two defenders to create space for a right foot that rocketed into the top right corner. Just three minutes later he scored a second goal with a cheeky right foot curler from the far side of the penalty box over an out of position keeper! It was sensational stuff! Final score: LAS 2 - Aiglon 0.

Boys Volleyball

The SGIS champs were excited for their chance at securing a spot in the ADISR Cup final. The boys started slowly as they found their feet after a long fall break. Losing the first two sets LAS looked worried as their hitters were finding themselves blocked out of point scoring. With a tactical change from coach Hitchcock and the realization that unless something changed they were out of the cup, LAS began to slowly turn the tide. Their mistakes lessened, their hitters were scoring, and LAS found themselves at 2-2 going into a final set. As both teams tightened, Collège du Léman took an early lead. Tasker '26 and Piotr '27 made their attacks count and LAS found themselves with a match point! Kaiser '29 held strong to serve in the final ball and LAS took the win to play for the prestigious ADISR Cup. LAS host Nations in the final next Tuesday

Golf

The golf season came to a close at the exceptional Bonmont course where LAS attended with eight golfers ready to finish with a bang. The course played well in beautiful autumnal conditions and Joe '26 proudly finished second in the scratch competition and Rodrigo '27 finished fifth in the Stableford competition. The LAS golfers now move to our indoor simulator as the seasons change and the snow starts to fall.

Girls Volleyball

LAS hosted the SGIS Girls Volleyball invitational with 12 teams competing in this historic and much loved competition. Leysin sat in all its autumnal glory as the girls played in six matches over two days. With a tough group draw the girls fought hard to secure third place just missing out on a chance to make it through to the top eight playoffs. They kept their heads held high and worked on their fundamentals as they won three of their six weekend matches. The team shows great promise with new young talent emerging as Amelia '29, Anna Claire '28 and Elena '29 continue to grow and improve, forming the future of what is a close-knit team of passionate individuals!
