Outdoor Adventure Awaits for Everyone at LAS

At Leysin American School, every morning begins with breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps, and every day brings adventure and opportunities to be active in our gorgeous surroundings. From majestic peaks to crystal-clear lakes, the Swiss landscape is the perfect playground to inspire confidence, resilience, and joy!

Biking
Freedom and challenge meet on two wheels at LAS. Twice a year, our Alpine Institute organizes unforgettable cycling tours through the Swiss countryside, one in the fall and one in the spring, designed to push boundaries while keeping the joy of discovery alive. With bikes that support all levels of cyclists, and Switzerland’s famous train routes connecting scenic trails, every student can join the adventure. Along the way, they develop endurance, teamwork, and self-belief surrounded by some of Europe’s most stunning scenery. Plus, cycling is available to students on campus through our Activities program!

Hiking
With glacier treks, 4,000-meter summits, and turquoise lakes, hiking at LAS is nothing short of extraordinary. Students venture out on day hikes or weekend expeditions that lead them across world-famous peaks and pristine Alpine valleys. Whether standing at the edge of the Aletsch Glacier, spotting wild ibex, or summiting the Allalinhorn, students experience nature in its purest form, gaining perspective, gratitude, and a deep respect for the natural world. And hiking trails await just a step just outside each of our dorm buildings right in our own backyard!

Camping
For students who crave an even deeper connection with nature, camping trips offer the ultimate Alpine adventure. Equipped with tents, gear, and guidance from experienced staff, students spend weekends exploring remote trails, cooking together outdoors, and sleeping beneath a sky full of stars. These overnight adventures foster teamwork, independence, and appreciation for the beauty and simplicity of life in the mountains.

Skiing and Snowboarding
For LAS students, the mountains are right at our doorstep. Our village ski resort, just minutes from campus, offers direct access to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world. Each season, students receive private lessons tailored to their level, helping them build skill and confidence at their own pace. Weekend trips to iconic destinations like Zermatt, Saas-Fee, and Jungfrau take the experience even further. Advanced skiers and snowboarders can join the LAS Freeride Team, exploring pristine off-piste terrain with expert guides, an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Alps. And those looking to experience the excitement of jumps, flips, and tricks in our world-class snow park can join the LAS Freestyle Team.

Rock Climbing
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Alps, LAS is a haven for climbers. With a professional-grade indoor climbing wall on campus and world-renowned climbing sites nearby, students learn from expert instructors who help them grow in strength, focus, and determination. Each climb offers both a physical and personal ascent, encouraging students to reach new heights in every sense.

Water Sports
When the snow gives way to summer, students trade their skis for paddles and head to the turquoise waters of Lake Geneva, just a short train ride away. Paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, wake boarding, and even surfing at a nearby “wave garden” offer students a chance to unwind, challenge themselves, and soak up the magic of the Swiss outdoors.

Learning Beyond the Classroom
At LAS, we believe that education should be as dynamic and inspiring as the world itself. Every hike, ride, climb, and campfire is an opportunity for students to learn about themselves, build resilience, and embrace life with confidence and curiosity!
