LAS Math Olympiad Success!

Students Martin C. and Michael C. competed in the Economics Olympiad in Zurich this past weekend, and they represented LAS well! The twins were up against 138 other students, and in the end were two of four contestants selected to represent Switzerland later this summer at the International Economic Olympiad in Latvia.

The competitors started the day bright and early with a one hour exam exploring economic issues in Switzerland. Next up was a business case. Following some preparation time, the candidates were asked to present to a virtual judging panel on the business model of a company called Derma2Go - an app that would allow people to take photos of skin problems and connect them virtually with dermatologists.

“Business is interesting because it tries to understand human interactions numerically. There are many models that represent a complex world in numbers and graphs that can be used to interpret human decisions." - Martin C.

Michael and Martin blew the judges away and were awarded with gold medals and the honor of representing Switzerland at the International Economic Olympiad. We are extremely proud of them, and can't wait to see them bring their smarts and skills to the next competition!

“I'm proud of myself and everyone who took part. We all left our comfort zone today and did our best." - Michael C.
