LAS Welcomes Back the National Honor Society!

After a two year hiatus, LAS has restarted its chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) with a new group of motivated and service-oriented leaders from grades 10-12. Thank you to everyone that joined us on Monday at the Belle Époque Grande Salle; we were proud to introduce many new members to the society!

The NHS is the premier academic honor organization in the United States, established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Over one million students participate in this program worldwide, so it is a special community to be a part of!

Our leadership programs and opportunities at LAS create independent thinkers who can effect positive change in our LAS community and the world around them. We offer a variety of opportunities to ensure that every student can participate in a meaningful way, develop their leadership skills, and discover their innate leadership potential. Along the journey of their NHS program, we hope our students become confident young adults and build essential skills that will prepare them for leadership roles later in life.

Participation in NHS involves charity and fundraising work, and our students have chosen the ROPKA organization in Nepal to support with their fundraising efforts this year. ROPKA is a relief organization founded in 1980 with the aim of enabling the disadvantaged to help themselves. Their aid is primarily focused on education, medicine, and food/living costs, focusing mainly on Nepal, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

To support this incredible organization, LAS members of the NHS have organized fundraising activities, including selling snacks at the World Cup fan event in December and selling chocolates, roses, and teddy bears at our upcoming Valentine’s Day fundraiser. Thank you to our student community, which has widely supported these projects!
