LAS Students Take on the Annecy-Yvoire Bike Tour
At LAS, we are proud to offer our students the chance to explore the incredible landscapes surrounding us. Nestled in the heart of the Alps, LAS is a gateway to some of the most breathtaking locations in Europe. Recently, eight students set out on an amazing overnight cycling trip organized by the Alpine Institute, cycling through the stunning scenery of France and Switzerland while developing their fitness, teamwork, and love for the outdoors.
The weekend began on Saturday with a classic 56-kilometre loop around Lake Annecy, one of the most picturesque rides in the region. Travelling on quiet roads and dedicated bike paths, the group cycled through peaceful countryside, past pretty villages, and along the lakeshore. The students detoured to a historic Roman road before finishing the day with a refreshing dip in the lake's fresh waters.
On Sunday, the trip continued with a 30-kilometre ride toward Lake Geneva. The group went to the medieval French village of Yvoire, where they enjoyed a well-earned lunch surrounded by cobbled streets and castles. From there, they boarded a boat to cross the lake, returning to Switzerland and catching the train back to Leysin.
The Alpine Institute at LAS organizes two bike touring weekends each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. These trips are open to all students who can safely ride a bicycle, and e-bikes are available to make them accessible. The tours use Switzerland’s train network and carefully selected routes to create fun but challenging routes that encourage students to push themselves and grow!
Our students developed essential life skills throughout the weekend, from route planning and navigation to teamwork and perseverance. Our faculty members supported them every step of the way, bringing their outdoor expertise and love of cycling to the weekend.
At LAS, we believe in learning beyond the classroom, and weekends like this remind us how lucky we are to live and learn in such an amazing part of Europe. Congratulations to all the students who participated in this challenge. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next, and we look forward to welcoming new riders to our Lac Neuchâtel Bike and Spa trip this October!
