LAS Students Connect, Collaborate, and Get Inspired at the Swiss Schools Sustainability Summit

Recently, our Environment Group—joined by several students who have long been active in sustainability initiatives—traveled to nearby Aiglon College for a day of learning, inspiration, and collaboration. For some, it was a meaningful return visit, offering a chance to reconnect with peers from other Swiss international schools and exchange stories, ideas, and fresh motivation for the work ahead.

Throughout the day, our students dove enthusiastically into discussions about biodiversity, rewilding, and the role that young people can play in shaping a more sustainable future. They left with new knowledge, new connections, and a renewed sense of responsibility toward protecting our planet. We are deeply proud of these young leaders—each of them willing to step forward, care deeply, and take real action. Their commitment continues to inspire our entire community.

Hosted this year on Aiglon’s campus, the Swiss Schools Sustainability Summit is a student-led initiative that brings together international schools across Switzerland to share sustainable practices and collaborate on meaningful environmental action. The 2025 Summit centered on the theme: “Rewilding Our Future: Local Actions for Global Biodiversity.”

Students, educators, environmentalists, and sustainability advocates gathered for a dynamic day focused on how local, school-based initiatives can contribute to global biodiversity goals. The full-day summit brought students together for a rich program that began with registration and a warm welcome before moving into an engaging icebreaker and a student-led talk on biodiversity and the importance of data. Delegates then joined a hands-on workshop using digital tools to monitor local biodiversity, followed by a sustainably sourced lunch.

Special guests Paul Gardiner (a celebrated conservationist and adventurer, rewilding, conservation, and his documentary series Natural Born Runners) and staff from the Bear Grylls Survival Academy shared wilderness skills, teamwork challenges, and hands-on learning experiences. Students broke into cross-school groups to design practical biodiversity projects. The day concluded with team presentations, an award for the most innovative proposal, and time for reflection and conversation over tea.

Our students returned to LAS energized and full of ideas, ready to advance sustainability efforts right here on the Magic Mountain. With continued collaboration and leadership, they are helping shape a future that is not only more sustainable but more hopeful for everyone!
