LAS Student Leaders Help New Students Settle In

As we have welcomed new and returning students to the LAS campus this week, our Student Leaders have played an integral role in fostering a welcoming, supportive, and informative orientation environment. We are so proud to see that they are already committed to developing a wide range of skills, forming new friendships, and making a meaningful impact on our community.

During orientation week, Student Leaders support new students (in particular) in a variety of ways: they accompany new students to meals in their first few days, lead activities in the dorms, answer questions from students and families alike, help with luggage, and even give tips about settling into a dorm room!

"It was great to welcome the new students and show them around—the vibes were amazing!" - Alina '28, Senior Prefect

Our Student Leaders set the tone for the new year within these first few days and we could not be more pleased with their enthusiasm, compassion, and positivity. This year’s Student Council President, Isaiah ‘26, described the atmosphere on campus as new and returning students arrived:

“Already this year there has been a lot of collaboration–it sounds cliché but it’s true! We have a great crew of people who are not only good at working together, but genuinely enjoy being together. We have heard a lot of great feedback from new families that the orientation process was efficient and helpful, which makes all the effort worth it.

“In talking to new students, everyone seems well acclimated and happy to be here—they are meeting new people and there has been a constant game going on at the pool table in the Cave since students arrived! Even the returning students are jumping right back into life on campus—they are happy to see their friends and pick right back up where they left off.”

The work of our Student Leaders doesn’t end after orientation! They continue to be the voice of the students and lead and support their classmates throughout the year. Leadership at LAS takes many different forms and is inclusive of so many of our students: Student Council members, SAFE representatives, dorm proctors, prefects, and ambassadors, admissions diplomats, athletic team captains, activity and club leaders, International Award participants, Big Program mentors, Honor Council members, service project leaders, and many more!

Our student leadership program aims to develop self-motivated young adults who are capable of pushing change within the LAS community and into the future. With a diverse array of opportunities available, every student has the chance to develop their skills, discover their leadership potential, and make a difference. We hope that all students, whether in official roles or not, will take advantage of these opportunities and act as positive role models throughout the school!
