LAS Receives AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award!

We are proud to announce that LAS is the recipient of the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for the 2023-2024 school year. This prestigious award celebrates schools that have expanded young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principles (CSP), an essential step toward achieving gender equity in computer science education and careers! This recognition highlights our school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that encourages female students to explore and excel in STEM fields.

The AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award is given to schools that either achieve 50% or higher female representation in their AP computer science courses or have a percentage of female exam takers that meets or exceeds the overall female population of the school. This amazing achievement reflects our efforts in bridging the gender gap in technology and providing students with the skills needed to become innovative citizens of the world.

The demand for computer science experts continues to grow and women represent just 26.9% of the workforce in this field. By encouraging female participation in computer science, LAS is helping to address this disparity and prepare our students for innovative technological careers. Research by the College Board shows the importance of early exposure to computer science. Female students who take AP CSP in high school are over five times more likely to major in computer science in college than their peers who do not.

We’re thrilled to congratulate our female AP Computer Science Principles students and their teachers on this fantastic achievement. This award highlights our dedication to providing equal opportunities for all students and inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. LAS is always committed to promoting diversity in STEM education and empowering all students to pursue their passions in technology and innovation.
