LAS Athletics Update!

The last two weeks have been jam-packed for our student athletes! We place great emphasis on our student activities here at LAS and believe that being a part of a sports team allows students to bond with their friends and develop vital skills such as teamwork and resilience. With eleven different sports teams to choose from, our students have a lot of opportunities to get involved and stay active!

Football
Last week, our LAS boys football team played in a tournament in Lausanne. On the first day, our team had three matches and came out with one win and one draw. On the second day, our team won both the games they played against Aiglon and Le Rosey. We finished 9th place in a very well-contested tournament. Thank you to the students for their incredibly positive attitude and hard work! It was our best tournament so far and we love to see the competitive spirit and positive behavior our students exhibit towards other players, coaches, and referees.

Our girls football team entered their tournament last week with lots of optimism and a sense of togetherness despite it being their first matches of the season. This competition was intended to be a learning experience, and the girls learned a lot! Our girls will continue to have a positive attitude and improve their skills. Well done!

A great effort this week from both the girls and boys teams, who played well against Beau Soleil in a high-scoring game! We would like to congratulate the players on their hard work and effort on the pitch. And a big thank you to everyone who supported our teams down at Lower Sporting!

Basketball
Our girls basketball is back after three years! Coach Biddulph has resurrected the LAS Goats, and it was a defiant display of grit and determination in their first game as a team ever last week! There is a lot to be proud of and we know the team will see plenty of growth this year. A special mention to Vera ‘25 who scored 8 points and had many impressive steals and interceptions!

The boys and girls basketball teams also played a friendly match against the LAS faculty this week as part of Spirit Week, where they beat the faculty team 52 points to 41! There was some outstanding play from both sides and great sportsmanship! Thanks to everyone who turned out to play and all the students and faculty who came to watch and support the game.

Volleyball
A few weeks ago, our boys volleyball team proudly finished 3rd in a huge tournament all the way over in Lugano! Their only losses of the weekend were to the first- and second-placing teams, some of which had National players in! Well done, boys!

Karting
The Go Karting Team was out in full force a few weekends ago, taking eight drivers to a track in Bern. Giulio ‘27 finished 3rd on the podium. Great driving team!
