Insights into Renewable Energy with Roxanne Wisner ‘07

At LAS, we love welcoming members of our Global Family from across the world back to campus. Recently, Roxanne Wisner ‘07 returned to LAS to lead workshops with students, reminisce on old memories, and return to her home on the Magic Mountain!

Roxanne is a Hydrogen Commercial Manager for Chevron New Energies, where she develops large-scale low-carbon hydrogen projects to support the decarbonization of heavy industry and heavy-duty mobility. It was great for our students to learn from her expertise in this field, and they were really excited to understand more about this fascinating and ever-changing industry that is becoming more vital in the current world climate. Roxanne has over ten years of experience across commercial, supply chain, and strategy roles, and has served on the board of Chevron Women’s Network.

It was inspiring for our students to learn about this industry from not only an alum who was in their position 15 years ago but also a successful woman in this male-dominated field. Here at LAS, we provide our students with impactful experiential learning opportunities so they can see the practical applications of their studies at work in the real world. Our classes are not just about passing an exam or learning the content from a textbook but instead are about inspiring students with real-world examples and practical exercises. These workshops are a perfect example of experiential learning at LAS, and our students loved learning from a professional who demystified this industry and taught them lots of new knowledge about renewable energy!

During her time on campus, Roxanne interacted with students from many different classes. She conducted workshops with students from the IB Global Politics classes about Negotiating an Energy Transition Agreement, and she worked with StuCo, MUN, and other classes such as Pre-AP History, Entrepreneurship, Financial Markets, and Economics. She also led drop-in sessions and talked to students interested in pursuing a career in the renewable energy field.

We are really lucky to have hosted Roxanne on campus last week; her expertise and knowledge was invaluable for our students, and it was great to see them interact so well and show so much interest. We can’t wait to offer even more experiential learning opportunities to our classes in the upcoming months!
