LAS Graduation 2021

On May 22, 2021 we were able to enjoy a beautiful in-person graduation ceremony featuring some wonderful speakers and excellent students.

Throughout the ceremony there was so much wisdom shared, many fond memories recounted, and well wishes given. Watch the whole live streamed ceremony. Otherwise, keep reading to hear some of our graduation highlights.

The ceremony began with opening words by none other than LAS legend, Mr. Skove. Elected by the graduating class to speak, Mr. Skove began by sharing little nuggets of wisdom he has gathered over the years including "bend down every once in a while to stop and smell a flower" and "be humble in the face of your own limitations," sprinkling inside jokes he shared with his class throughout. He concluded with his sincerest well wishes, and final words of wisdom for the class.

Shortly after the presentation of senior and parent awards, the senior class was greeted by the Valedictorian,  Wenxuan Z. In a heartfelt speech, Wenxuan congratulated his peers on being able to find the good in a tricky year, and spoke on how experiences are truly shaped by your attitude towards them. He concluded by wishing his class all the best, and hoping for a chance to see them all together one day again in the future.

Next up was the Commencement Address by Mr. Michel Rochat, CEO of Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne. Mr. Rochat centered his thoughts around the idea of benevolence. He encouraged the graduating class to be proactive, make people feel comfortable, give to those who have less—either in love or financially, and pay attention to the world around you.

Towards the end of the event, Doris and Steven Ott shared a special message with the students: their hopes and dreams for the graduating class as they go forward from LAS. They expressed their hope that these young alumni continue to find excitement in learning, that they always be loyal, that they find love, and that they continue to be a citizen of the world as they go into the world.

Graduation 2021 was such a special event, and we were so glad to be able to share it in-person with our graduates, and virtually with friends and family of LAS all around the world via live stream. There were many more wonderful speeches and moments, so if you'd like to check out the full ceremony, be sure to check it out here!
