From Script to Stage: Student-led Production of 'The Bottom of the Lake'

LAS offers a vibrant and inclusive arts program catering to students from different artistic backgrounds and interests. Our well-equipped facilities and broad arts curriculum foster and develop budding talents, empowering students to pursue their creative endeavors with confidence. We actively promote student engagement, recognizing the arts as a gateway to endless opportunities for self-expression within a fun and friendly atmosphere!

This year's spring play, The Bottom of the Lake, debuted this week! The play, a spooky rendition of ghost stories around a campfire, was a performance to remember! Audiences watched in horror and amazement as the story panned out, revealing a dark and chilling twist at the end. Themes included summer camp, ghosts, romance, comedy, and more, all in a single play!

All production elements, including set design, sound, costume, and lighting, were created by students from the Technical Theatre class. The students spent countless hours making the visual and audio world of The Bottom of the Lake come to life! These students came up with some incredibly innovative and creative ideas, and it was fantastic to see students organizing every aspect of the production! Due to the spooky element of this play, it was imperative that lighting and sound were used effectively; alongside the acting, this is what creates a creepy and ghostly atmosphere. Their designs and lighting really shined on stage, creating elements of surprise, horror, and eeriness.

The dedication and enthusiasm of all participants, from the actors to the technical team, have turned The Bottom of the Lake into an amazing production that captivated audiences during its three-day run. Seeing a production develop from the first formation of an idea to performing in front of audiences was an invaluable experience for our student thespians and taught them a lot about theatre production. We eagerly anticipate the next performance in the upcoming academic year!
