Faculty Families: A Tradition of Belonging

At LAS, we have proudly been a family school since our founding over 60 years ago. One way we demonstrate this is through our long-standing and much-loved Faculty Family tradition. Faculty Families are small, close-knit groups made up of 5-8 student “siblings” and 2-3 staff “parents.” Students are grouped by grade level and once a family is formed, it stays together for the students' entire time at LAS, creating lasting bonds and a true sense of belonging.

Each week, Faculty Families come together for game nights, shared dinners, or casual hangouts where students can relax, connect, and build meaningful friendships. Throughout the year, families also enjoy full-day outings off campus, which might include hiking, biking, boating, laser tag, exploring thermal baths, visiting aqua parks, or discovering nearby cities. No matter the activity, the goal remains the same: to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and connected to the LAS community.

Before classes even begin, Faculty Families meet to plan how they will spend time together, setting the tone for a year of connection. Like any family, each group has its own unique personality and we celebrate the diversity of opinions and perspectives within them. Students actively help plan activities and excursions, learning valuable skills in collaboration, communication, and compromise.

Years after graduation, alumni often share that Faculty Family was one of their most meaningful experiences at LAS. For us, that is proof of just how powerful this program is. Faculty Families not only help students meet new people and build friendships but also ensure every member of our community feels supported and engaged. This cherished tradition is a reflection of our mission: to create a warm, family-centered environment that empowers each student to grow into a compassionate and responsible global citizen.
