Exploring the World: A Recap of Recent Weekend Trips

Travel broadens the mind, and what better way to explore the world than by immersing yourself in the culture and language of another country? LAS offers a variety of trips each year, with the aim of having fun with friends, learning new languages, and immersing in different cultures. Recently, students went on a variety of trips over a long weekend and had the most incredible time!

Athens, Greece
Our annual senior trip to Athens proved to be a huge success once again this year! The trip was a journey through ancient history, incredible landscapes, and amazing Greek culture! With a packed itinerary featuring iconic landmarks like the Acropolis, the Olympic Stadium, and the streets of Athens’ old town, students experienced the perfect balance of guided tours and independent exploration with their friends.

One of the highlights of the trip was a ferry ride to the picturesque island of Aegina. Here, they visited the ancient Temple of Aphaia, before enjoying an afternoon exploring the island’s lovely town, beaches, and local delicacies. In the evening, students took part in some cultural experiences, including a traditional Greek dinner complete with music, dancing, and plate smashing! Our students had a senior trip they will never forget!

Barcelona, Spain
Another group of students recently went to Barcelona for the weekend. From sitting front row at a fantastic flamenco show to learning the art of Catalan cuisine in a hands-on cooking class, every activity during the trip was amazing! Students also explored the lively Mercat de la Boqueria, learned about street art at the Banksy Museum, and dined at the historic Els 4 Gats, a favorite of Picasso himself. The whole trip provided a perfect blend of history, creativity, and amazing food!

Lisbon, Portugal
Our recent Lisbon trip was an exciting mix of cultural exploration, local delicacies, and fun activities! The adventure began on Friday with a Tuc Tuc tour of Lisbon’s historic old town and a visit to Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where students also indulged in the city's famous Pastéis de Belém. Students also had the opportunity to visit the Oceanarium and go on a cable car ride. With its blend of history, excellent food, and stunning scenery, this trip was a fantastic experience for our students!

Venice, Italy
The Venice trip was packed with cultural experiences, iconic sights, and hands-on activities! On the first day, students participated in a mask-making workshop, where they crafted traditional Venetian masks. They then explored the Campanile and Basilica di San Marco, followed by a gondola ride through the city's picturesque waterways. Students also took part in sightseeing and shopping, with highlights including a visit to the island of Murano to witness the art of glassblowing! Students had an amazing time exploring Venetian culture!

These incredible trips allowed our students to immerse themselves in these stunning destinations' rich cultures, histories, and traditions. Whether wandering through the ancient ruins of Athens, tasting the flavors of Barcelona, exploring Lisbon’s charming streets, or exploring Venice’s canals, our students have incredible adventures each year at LAS. We look forward to future adventures like our cultural trips in the summer, and we can’t wait to show our students more parts of the world!
