Embracing Learning, Creativity, and Exploration with LAS Extracurricular Programs

At LAS, we believe that student lifestyle, culture, and friendships are what create memories for life. Beyond the importance of academic excellence, students always remember the travel opportunities, faculty families, and after-school clubs for years to come. Our school believes that to make a well-rounded student, we must encourage them to take part in a variety of extracurricular activities and meet as many people from around the world as possible. In turn, this allows students to become the best versions of themselves and develop into innovative, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world. The combination of the many different programs we offer at LAS is what drives our student experience, and we can’t wait to share these activities with our students this year!

Experiential learning is an essential component of our student experience. This means learning through hands-on experience, whether academically through school trips or extracurricular activities. We encourage students to interact with their peers, develop new skills, and learn about themselves through our after-school programs. Stepping out of their comfort zones and trying new things almost always brings students closer together, and showing that vulnerability and readiness to learn about their strengths and weaknesses really develops students’ resilience, compassion, and teamwork skills.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of their time in the Swiss Alps through our extensive outdoor activities programs, such as the Alpine Institute, ski lessons, and hiking excursions. Students are also given the opportunity to join sports teams and active programs such as volleyball, yoga, and horseback riding. Furthermore, the Alpine Institute and ski lessons help students learn new skills and see all the Swiss Alps offer! This is often a favorite amongst our students, who love fostering new friendships and spending time in our picturesque snowy landscape.

With an alpine backyard and neighboring countries just a short ways away, we always make the most of our beautiful location. Centered in the heart of Europe, students are always amazed by the incredible travel opportunities we offer at LAS. Travel weekends, cultural trips to areas of Europe, and even excursions further afield to countries like Zimbabwe allow our students to make the most of the opportunities at their fingertips. Through these trips, students are fully immersed in different cultures, equipping them with the skills to become world leaders and culturally knowledgeable young adults with an awareness of customs, culture, and history. These trips also create further bonds between students and their peers, as well as their teachers and faculty, and foster a family-like atmosphere.

In addition to exploring our beautiful outdoors, students are also encouraged to express themselves creatively through our arts and creative programs. Students have ample opportunity to learn new skills and try new things, from art and pottery to theatre and robotics. Whether students are complete novices or experts in these activities, there is a place for them in our clubs to develop their skills!

Last week, we loved welcoming our students back to Magic Mountain, and we eagerly anticipate the semester ahead. Whether they are new to LAS or returning after the summer break, the start of the year brings a mix of excitement and nervousness. We hope that our students will take full advantage of our extensive academic and extracurricular programs, and we look forward to seeing them develop new skills and form lasting friendships!
