Embracing Authenticity: Speaker Dylan Holloway Inspires LAS Students

LAS was honored to welcome Dylan Holloway to campus last week. Dylan is a transgender man, award-winning musician, and authenticity ambassador for Beyond, a youth mental health charity. Dylan brought an inspiring and thought-provoking message to our students and faculty, and his visit provided a unique opportunity for our community to engage with themes of identity, inclusion, and self-expression.

Dylan’s keynote speech, The Importance of Being You, was a highlight of his visit. The talk was really poignant and reinforced his message, which was centered around the power of embracing our true selves and the importance of creating inclusive spaces for all identities. Dylan shared his personal journey as a transgender man, discussing the challenges he has experienced. His speech also covered topics such as diversity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and gender identity, creating important conversations among students and staff.

Dylan’s visit was filled with engaging moments that allowed the LAS community to connect with him in various settings. Faculty and staff had the chance to meet Dylan at an après-ski gathering at Le Grand Chalet, and he also visited classrooms throughout the week, providing students with a more personal and hands-on learning experience tailored to their curriculum.

After Dylan’s keynote speech, students gathered in the Cave for a discussion hosted by SAFE and the Technicolor Fellowship. Students continued the conversation in a safe and welcoming environment and enjoyed pizza together! It was an excellent opportunity for students to exchange thoughts and reflections on Dylan’s talk. This space allowed students to discuss what they had learned, reinforcing the importance of open dialogue in creating inclusivity.

Dylan Holloway’s visit highlighted our commitment to respect and inclusivity. We continue to uphold our mission of dismantling discrimination through education and student support by bringing in guest speakers who celebrate authenticity and equality. We are grateful to Dylan for sharing his story, music, and wisdom, and we look forward to more DEIJ events in the future!
