Early Season Skiing and Zermatt Mountain Peaking!

At LAS, we aim to instill a love for the environment and the outdoors within our students. After all, we are surrounded by breathtaking Swiss landscapes and clean, crisp Alpine air! One great thing about our location is that we are only a stone’s throw away from some other amazing areas of Switzerland and Europe, and we love taking our students on adventures on weekends and school breaks.

Over the past few weeks, we have had the opportunity to take some of our students on two fantastic trips to Zermatt. Zermatt is a beautiful municipality in Switzerland that is home to the Matterhorn, the iconic Alp that straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy. This area is notorious for hiking, climbing, and skiing and the town sits at 1,600m, just a bit higher than Leysin.

A few weeks ago, two of our students in the 4000 Meter Club (Giulio '27 and Oliver '27) headed to Zermatt to climb the Breithorn (4164 meters). This was a challenging adventure for our students but they did really well and managed to summit successfully! Our outdoor program is all about giving students the opportunity to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves to achieve heights they never thought they would reach. We are really proud of these courageous students!

Due to the high-altitude slopes, skiing is also available year-round at Zermatt. Last weekend, some of our Savoy students enjoyed an early-season ski and snowboard trip to the jump park! Students were able to ski in the shadow of the Matterhorn at one of the best jump parks in the world. It was an opportunity of a lifetime, and our students had a fantastic day out!

We are excited to offer even more outdoor opportunities in the coming months and see what amazing things our students can achieve! With an array of outdoor experiences and options available, students who are passionate about the outdoors or just want to give hiking a go have many events they can get involved with! Additionally, with ski season on the way, we only have a couple of months of hiking left before we move fully onto skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, and ice climbing. We can’t wait!
