Connection and Belonging: The Heart of the Social Program for Our Younger Students

Here at LAS, we give students an abundance of opportunities to challenge themselves academically, discover their passions, and grow personally through our diverse array of activities, athletics, trips, and clubs. We are continually impressed by how enthusiastically our students seize these opportunities and make the most of them.

We also believe that a truly successful boarding school experience goes beyond the classroom—finding friends, being comfortable socially, and feeling like a valued part of the community are just as important. Living away from home and finding one's social footing can be challenging, especially for younger students, which is why our dorm heads design and run a robust and thoughtfully structured social program. Through regular events and excursions, both on and off campus, students have the space to come together, have fun, and build genuine bonds in a warm and supportive environment.

Après-Ski Fuel

With the ski season delivering plenty of fresh mountain air and physical activity, students work up quite an appetite by the afternoon. To keep energy high and spirits warm, our staff serve homemade, delicious food after every Tuesday and Thursday ski session. Tuesdays feature hearty hot dishes like chili, pasta bars, pizza, and grilled cheese, while Thursdays lean fresh and light with açaí bowls, seasonal fruits, and healthy baked goods.

Weekend Socials

On a weekend evening, you might hear lively music and catch the scent of wood smoke drifting from the Beau Réveil and Esplanade dorms as a cozy bonfire and s'mores night gets underway. Here is a glimpse of additional activities students have been enjoying:

  • Laser tag
  • Paragliding
  • Dances
  • Crafting nights
  • Sunset hikes
  • Movie nights
  • Visit to a traditional Swiss farm
  • Tours of local historical sites
  • Train trips to Lake Geneva and surrounding villages
  • Virtual reality workshops
  • Canyoning
  • Surfing (yes, surfing in Switzerland!)

Nearly all of these activities are inclusive for all physical abilities and require no special athletic experience. They take place two to three times per week, scheduled around sports and academics, with students encouraged to attend at least one per week. The benefits go well beyond fun. These gatherings give students a healthy outlet for stress, a sense of normalcy, and a chance for students across both dorms to mingle, connect, and form the kind of deep friendships that define the boarding school experience.

At LAS, we view these events as essential to the well-being and success of our students, not as extras, but as a core part of life here. We are deeply grateful for the energy, creativity, and genuine care our staff bring to planning these experiences, and we love seeing the positive impact they have on our students every single day.
