Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice
The family atmosphere is essential to the culture of LAS and one that allows students and staff of many nationalities to grow and learn from one another in harmony. With firm resolve, LAS is committed to the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ). Each member of the community is responsible for creating a safe and healthy campus as we support our diverse community. Through our LAS values which are founded on the principle of respect, we are expected to be respectful of all differences (such as racial, ethnic, religious, gender, neurological, physical, and sexual orientation differences). All members of the community must show compassion and dismantle racism and discrimination through education and student support.
View the LAS Inclusion Policy to learn more about how we support the wide diversity of individuals within our community through our approach to Teaching and Learning, Gender Inclusion, Support for practice of faith, Learning Support, and Multilingual Learning.
Community Involvement
Our community fosters an inclusive community through a variety of avenues for involvement:
Our Journey
At LAS, we are all involved in ensuring that our community is a place where people from all identities can thrive. We are a learning community committed to continuously developing our competency to bridge our differences. Through this journey, we live out our mission, vision, and values to contribute positively to our world. From the smallest gestures of respect, to the most visible projects, there are more actions throughout our history that have taken place to build an inclusive community than can be fully documented. However, for a glimpse into some of our initiatives in recent years to promote DEIJ, you can view these recent annual reports from our DEIJ Committee:
Memberships
LAS is proud to be a school member of AIELOC (Association of International Educators and Leaders of Color). Since its founding in 2017, AIELOC has been a leading organization focused on DEIJ and anti-discrimination within international schools. Through their strong network and programming, they support schools and educators to promote DEIJ within policies, programs, practices, recruitment, curriculum, and the general life of their institutions. We are grateful for their support and partnership along our journey.
