Village of Leysin

Quick facts:

Leysin, one of the foremost alpine resorts in French-speaking Switzerland, provides a friendly, welcoming home for the LAS community. Located on a south facing plateau of the Alps, the region is renowned internationally for its invigorating and sunny climate. Leysin is only 90 minutes by car from Geneva and is connected to Europe’s rail system.

The region is rich in arts and heritage providing students with opportunities to attend museums, theater, art galleries and international exhibitions and conferences. The village is well-known as an alpine resort with banks, restaurants, hotels, shops, and an English language cinema. With a population of only 3,000 residences it is small enough for our students to be both safe and part of a real community. As a major winter resort there are over 60 km of downhill and 10 km cross country skiing slopes and trails allowing Leysin to host national and international skiing and snowboarding events.

In addition to being a premier alpine getaway, Leysin is located near countless cultural destinations in the heart of Europe. Montreux, Vevey, and Lausanne each offer big city attractions less than an hour away. Trains between Italy and points north of the Alps — Geneva, Brussels, Paris, Munich, Amsterdam, and London — stop at Aigle, only 20 minutes away by cog railroad. Leysin is linked to the Swiss freeway system by a first class highway, and is less than 90 minutes away by car from the Geneva airport.

The Village of Leysin offers two separate professional sports facilities located in the village center with world-class recreation facilities that are free for SIS students’ use. SIS students have full access to both facilities and utilize them daily for games and activities.
