School Profile
The Leysin American School in Switzerland (LAS) is an international American boarding school with 380 students from over 60 countries in grades 8 to 12. LAS is located in the beautiful alpine village of Leysin about 90 minutes from Geneva. The school offers US high school curriculum, the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma and an ESL program. Members of the founding family, now in its third generation, are the Directors of LAS. There is also a summer program for students ages 8 - 19 which combines academics, recreational and cultural activities, and exciting trips in Switzerland and neighboring countries. Job Description
- Assisting and tutoroing an 11th grade male on a 1:1 basis who has dyslexia/dyscalculia (15 - 20 hrs. per week).
- Intern would act as a supplementary support to classroom instruction, including acting as a liaison with teachers and the Director of Learning Support.
- Room, board and round trip flight to Geneva, Switzerland included.
- Terms of contract September 15 to end of the academic year (June 1st)
Qualifications
- Mature male with minimum two years experience in Special Needs
- Must have a strong background in Mathematics
- Be innovative, dynamic, and have the ability to work independently
- Possess strong sense of ethics and values, while instilling firm discipline
- Strong written and verbal communicator, both with students and colleagues
- Ability to speak French preferable
- Must have EU passport
- Support the student in the following areas:
- Organization
- Motivation
- Develop strong and effective study habits
- Punctuality
- Develop confidence in abilities and knowledge
Extended Learning Support Coordinator
Fall 2010 - 2011
Job Description
- Supervising, coordinating and assisting a study support program/pilot project for a specific group of students, including promoting their academic, social and emotional development.
- Act as a supervisor and liaise with tutors, while monitoring students' progress during respective program.
- Conduct periodic assessments of the program to ensure respective targets are met and report to Director of Learning Support.
- Room and board included.
- One year contract with possibility of renewal (starting August 17th - ending June 1st).
- Salary of 40,000 CHF
