LAS is proud to offer their new Junior High program for the 2009/2010 school year. This addition of an 8th grade will create a Junior High section of 8th and 9th grades.
These two grade levels run independently from the rest of the school and so provide a separate environment for the children and their developmental needs which are, by their nature, very different to those of High School age students.
Following in the existing boarding school structure, the teachers who work in the Junior High section will also be living in dormitories with the students of this age group, as well as working with the same students after classes for their extra-curricular activities. The combination of understanding the age group and the residential life aspect brings great rewards to both staff and students.
Part of the Junior High course is the Advisory class; ten to thirteen students of the same age but mixed nationality. This period is used for mentoring, building international understanding and tending to social events such as the celebration of birthdays, enjoying pizza or a movie or another enjoyable group activity.
LAS will maintain its strong commitment to the ESL program and serving non-native English speakers to the best of our ability by providing ESL sections of each content subject area in the Junior High while maintaining traditionally small class sizes.
