A Student’s Account of THIMUN

Ian Yeats, a grade 12 IB student from U.S.A, shares his account of THIMUN after LAS students took part in a Model United Nations conference in Geneva.
“THIMUN was the kind of experience that sticks with you. It was like a week of being a real diplomat, working with people who strongly agreed with you, but also with those who strongly disagreed. It was a week of organized arguing with people, so at first glance, one might think that enemies would be formed within hours of the opening of the conference; however, it was often the people arguing against your resolution that you became friends with during the breaks. It was intense; it was real, buti n the end, we never lost sight of who we were: students. We never took ourselves too seriously, and that, for me, was what allowed this conference to be such a success. I wish that everybody could experience THIMUN. Thank you for this amazing opportunity.”
